Three ways in

Barnsley yards come down the A6135, Dearne Valley yards up from Wombwell, and anyone on the M1 is off at junction 36 in minutes. The more collectors that can reach a district, the better the best price, and S74 is a good example: the site shows the top figure any approved yard offers and that yard collects, usually next working day.

Hoyland and the villages

Hoyland is terraces around the town centre and King Street, estates towards Hoyland Common and Platts Common, and the older village of Elsecar down by the heritage centre and the reservoir. Jump sits between Hoyland and Wombwell. Some of the streets off the hill are steep; a car that has not moved for a while should be mentioned when you book so the driver brings the winch.

Cars and the odd van

Family cars at the end of the road, mostly; the units around Hoyland Common and the Birdwell side of the M1 send vans, which are priced from the registration and can be invoiced. MOT failures, non-runners, write-offs and vans up to 3.5 tonnes all go at the same free collection.

Licensed and paid within 24 hours

The registered keeper is paid by bank transfer within 24 hours of collection. Your keeper record is closed with the DVLA once the yard, an Authorised Treatment Facility, has issued the Certificate of Destruction. No V5C is not a problem — photo ID and proof of address are what the yard needs.

How it works

From registration to paid, in four steps

  1. 01

    Get your price

Registration and postcode. The car is looked up on the DVLA record and priced against what the licensed yards covering your district pay today.

  2. 02

    Book it

Tell us where the car is and what suits you. It takes under a minute, with no account and no haggling.

  3. 03

    A local yard rings you

The licensed collector behind your price calls within two hours in the working day to fix the day, then collects for free.

  4. 04

    Paid within 24 hours

Bank transfer to the registered keeper within 24 hours of collection. The DVLA is told and the Certificate of Destruction is emailed to you.

Highly professional and recommendable from start to finish. Collected my vehicle and paid within a few hours, and the collection driver was absolutely brilliant. Can’t recommend them enough and if I ever have to scrap a car again won’t hesitate to use them. Paid the best price too!

Questions

What people in Hoyland ask

Does Hoyland include Elsecar and Jump?

Yes — Hoyland, Hoyland Common, Platts Common, Elsecar and Jump share S74 and are priced together.

How soon after accepting the price is the car collected?

Usually next working day. The yard rings within a couple of hours of you accepting to agree the day and whether it will be morning or afternoon.

Can a car in a garage be collected?

Yes, if the driver knows it is in one. Say so when you book and the collector sends the right lorry and kit to pull it out.

How soon can you get to Hoyland?

Most Hoyland collections happen within a day or two of booking. The yard that collects is local, rings you to fix the day, and confirms the morning or afternoon before the driver leaves.

Do you charge for collection in Hoyland?

No. Collection is free — the lorry, the driver and the fuel are the collector's cost anywhere in S74, and nothing comes off the price on the day unless the car is not as you described it.

What if I have lost the V5C?

You can still scrap the car. The law asks the yard to check who you are, not to see the logbook, so photo ID and proof of address are what matter. The Authorised Treatment Facility that takes the car issues the Certificate of Destruction and updates the DVLA record.

Do you pay cash?

No, and no licensed yard legally can: the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 bans cash for scrap vehicles. The collector pays by bank transfer to the registered keeper within 24 hours of collection.
