Why Sheffield prices are strong

A scrap car is worth what the nearest yard can make from it minus the cost of fetching it. Sheffield has more Authorised Treatment Facilities within a short drive than most cities its size, on the east side around Attercliffe and Tinsley and out towards Rotherham and Chapeltown, and they compete. When several collectors quote for the same S postcode, the site shows you the highest, and the winning yard sends its own lorry. That competition is the reason Sheffield sits at the top of our tables.

Every side of the city

North Sheffield — Parson Cross, Shiregreen and Firth Park in S5, Hillsborough and Walkley in S6, Chapeltown and High Green in S35 — is where the largest single share of our Sheffield cars comes from. The south and east are close behind: Gleadless and Hackenthorpe in S12, Mosborough and Halfway in S20, Handsworth and Woodhouse in S13, Heeley and Woodseats in S8. The west — Crookes, Broomhill, Ecclesall, Dore — sends fewer but pricier cars. Whichever side you are on, the postcode picks the collectors, and the collectors know the streets.

Hills, terraces and permit zones

Say where the car is when you book. A Crookes terrace with permit parking, a Manor drive, a Darnall back lane and a Meadowhall car park are four different jobs, and the yard sends the right lorry when it knows. A car that has sat with a seized handbrake on a Walkley slope is routine for them — just not a surprise they want on arrival.

After you accept

The collector rings you, usually within a couple of hours, to agree a day; the driver checks your ID, loads the car, and the yard pays the registered keeper by bank transfer within 24 hours of collection. Every collector is an Authorised Treatment Facility, so the Certificate of Destruction is issued and the DVLA is told you are no longer the keeper. MOT failures, non-runners, write-offs and vans are all priced the same way, and a missing V5C is not a problem.
