Scrap my car
in Glasgow

Glasgow is where most of our Scottish cars come from: the Southside around Govanhill, Shawlands and Castlemilk, the East End from Dennistoun out to Easterhouse, Maryhill and Springburn in the north, and Govan and Pollok across the river. The collectors are licensed Scottish yards, and the site prices your car against every one of them that covers your G postcode.

Glasgow by postcode

The G postcodes fan out from the centre: G1 to G5 in the middle and Gorbals, G11 to G15 for the West End, Partick, Anniesland and Drumchapel, G20 to G23 for Maryhill, Springburn and Possilpark, G31 to G34 for Dennistoun, Shettleston, Riddrie and Easterhouse, G40 to G46 for Bridgeton, Shawlands, Govanhill, Castlemilk and Giffnock, and G51 to G53 for Govan, Cardonald and Pollok. In our records the Southside — Govanhill and Shawlands in G41 and G42, Castlemilk in G45 — and the East End send the most. Every district is priced on its own against the yards that cover it.

Tenements, permits and car parks

Much of Glasgow's housing is tenement streets with permit parking and nowhere to leave a dead car for long, and the collectors that work the city are used to it: a car in a controlled parking zone, in a multi-storey or in a back court off a lane is a normal job when the driver knows in advance. Say where the car is and whether it rolls when you book.

Scottish rules

The yards are licensed metal dealers and Authorised Treatment Facilities in Scotland. Cash for scrap has been banned in Scotland since 2016, so the registered keeper is paid by bank transfer within 24 hours of collection; the yard checks photo ID and proof of address, issues the Certificate of Destruction and the DVLA is told you are no longer the keeper.

Any car, any state

MOT failures, non-runners, insurance write-offs, retired taxis and vans up to 3.5 tonnes are all priced the same way — weight, today's metal rate and what is on the car. No V5C? The driver needs ID and proof of address, not the logbook.

How it works

From registration to paid, in four steps

  1. 01

    Get your price

Registration and postcode. The car is looked up on the DVLA record and priced against what the licensed yards covering your district pay today.

  2. 02

    Book it

Tell us where the car is and what suits you. It takes under a minute, with no account and no haggling.

  3. 03

    A local yard rings you

The licensed collector behind your price calls within two hours in the working day to fix the day, then collects for free.

  4. 04

    Paid within 24 hours

Bank transfer to the registered keeper within 24 hours of collection. The DVLA is told and the Certificate of Destruction is emailed to you.

Highly professional and recommendable from start to finish. Collected my vehicle and paid within a few hours, and the collection driver was absolutely brilliant. Can’t recommend them enough and if I ever have to scrap a car again won’t hesitate to use them. Paid the best price too!

Questions

What people in Glasgow ask

Which parts of Glasgow are covered?

All the G1 to G53 city postcodes, from the Southside and the East End to Maryhill, the West End and Govan. Coverage follows which Scottish yards are on the network at the time — enter your postcode and the site confirms it before you accept anything.

My car is in a permit zone in Govanhill — can it be collected?

Yes. The driver does not need a permit to stop and load, and Glasgow collectors work controlled parking zones every day. Tell us the street and whether the car moves.

Can I be paid cash in Glasgow?

No — Scotland banned cash for scrap metal in 2016. The collector pays the registered keeper by bank transfer within 24 hours of collection.

How quickly can you collect a scrap car in Glasgow?

Usually within one to three days. Your collector is a licensed yard local to Glasgow, so once you accept the price they ring you — normally within a couple of hours — to agree a day, and again before setting off.

Is collection in Glasgow really free?

Yes. The collector's price already includes the recovery truck, so there is nothing to pay anywhere in Glasgow (G1, G2, G3, G4, G5, G11, G12, G13, G14, G15, G20, G21, G22, G23, G31, G32, G33, G34, G40, G41, G42, G43, G44, G45, G46, G51, G52, G53), and the figure you accept is the figure paid into your bank.

Do I need the V5C logbook?

It helps, but you can still scrap the car without it. The collector checks your photo ID and proof of address instead, and because every yard on the network is an Authorised Treatment Facility, the Certificate of Destruction is issued and the DVLA is told you are no longer the keeper.

Can I get cash for my scrap car?

No — paying cash for scrap vehicles has been illegal in England and Wales since 2013, and in Scotland since 2016. Your collector pays by bank transfer to the registered keeper within 24 hours of collection.
